BEAUMONT, Texas — The Lamar Institute of Technology Regional Police Academy graduated a new class of cadets Friday morning, preparing them to serve law enforcement agencies in Southeast Texas.

The ceremony was held at 9 a.m. at the LIT Multipurpose Building. The newly graduated cadets are ready to protect and serve Southeast Texas communities.

Cadet Nicholas Ojeda, one of the graduates, said he joined the academy to help those who cannot help themselves.

"I am a cadet, just graduated from the police academy. So my view on this is that, you know, in a perfect world we're all able to take care of ourselves, take care of each other," Ojeda said. "However, this is not a perfect world, and I feel like there are others who need help."
