Armed police fired 19 shots to kill an XL Bully which had fatally attacked a pensioner, an inquest heard.
John McColl, an 84-year-old great-grandfather, suffered fatal injuries after the dog savaged him on a street in Warrington in February. An inquest into his death has been suspended, after criminal charges were brought in connection with the case.
Mr McColl had been walking home at around 6.40pm when the dog - believed by cops to be an unregistered XL bully - escaped from a nearby property and launched the attack. The pensioner, who was left with "serious and life-changing injuries", fought for his life in hospital for a month before he tragically died on March 30.
