NEWARK - The giant neon eagle on top of the Anheuser-Busch beer brewery will no longer greet travelers landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, as the landmark facility will close its doors early next year after being sold.
For one customer, seeing the massive brown brick building with the Anheuser-Busch eagle was one of the first scenes he saw of the United States after emigrating from Germany in the 1980s.
“I just can't imagine that iconic building not being there,” the customer wrote on Reddit.
The St. Louis-based beer company announced on Thursday that the beer facility, located at 200 U.S. Route 1 near Newark Liberty International Airport, will close early next year. Anheuser-Busch is also shuttering plants in Fairfield, Calif., and Merrimack, N.H.
