AKRON, Ohio – After more than a year of consideration, the city of Akron on Friday announced it will move forward with a full renovation of its current police headquarters building.

The city will invest an estimated $67 million into renovating the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center, located at 217 S. High St., according to a news release. The building was constructed in 1966.

The renovations will be spread out over several years so the building can be used during renovations. Plans call for repairing the building, improving the building’s layout and fixing the aging elevators and HVAC system.
