Supreme Court has refused to hear the bail plea of Mihir Shah in the 2024 Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case. The court stated, “Strictness is necessary in such cases; these boys need to be taught a lesson.”
A bench comprising Justices Deepankar Datta and AG Masiha noted that the accused comes from a wealthy family, parks his car in a Mercedes shed, and that his father was associated with the Shiv Sena faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The bench said these factors must be taken into account.
Senior advocate Rebeca John, appearing for Shah, argued that the Bombay High Court had allowed filing of the bail plea after the main witnesses’ statements were recorded. Following the Supreme Court’s remarks, the defence requested permission to withdraw the plea, which was granted.
