Fintan, a beloved 14-year-old male white lion who spent 13 years at the Toronto Zoo, was euthanized Friday morning.
The zoo had been providing the “majestic” jungle cat with heightened veterinary care for several months due to health problems, it said on Instagram . His condition recently took a turn for the worse and the staff decided to put him down, the zoo said.
Fintan, who was a fixture of the African Savanna exhibit, “was a true favourite in the hearts of guests, staff and volunteers and we know his absence will be felt by everyone who knew him,” the zoo wrote.
Fintan was born on Oct. 15, 2011, a zoo spokesperson said Saturday. The lion came to the facility in 2012 alongside females Makali and Lemon and was given the name Fintan, meaning “little fair one” in Gaelic, following a
