PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - New Hope Apartments in Downtown Peoria will close in a couple of months, but not because of a pair of recent fires in the building.
Service providers said residents are now in a “crisis,” as they prepare to leave the building at the end of February.
Volunteers are currently on fire watch 24/7 after last month’s fire destroyed the alarm system . The City of Peoria shelled out $300,000 to a security company to make the fire watch possible.
Just a week ago, about 72 residents of the building were almost displaced after a trash fire in a fifth-floor hallway; however, the American Red Cross stepped in to provide emergency shelter services in the building.
