HOLBROOK, Ariz. — A suspect is dead after allegedly engaging in gunfire with law enforcement, authorities tell 12News.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety Sergeant was in pursuit of a vehicle along eastbound Interstate 40 on Dec. 13, around 10 a.m. DPS said the vehicle continued along I-40 until the vehicle left the road and entered the desert east of Holbrook.

The suspect then "engaged in gunfire" with law enforcement.

At 1:46 p.m., the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said. DPS did not say what occurred in between the gunfire and when the suspect was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The DPS Major Incident Division will be leading this investigation and no other information was given.
