WELSH, La. (KPLC) - State police have released the identity of the person killed in a deadly crash on I-10 near Welsh.
The crash claimed the life of 56-year-old Wendell Ayers of Huntington, Texas, according to Louisiana State Police Troop D.
On Dec. 12, shortly after 4 p.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on I-10 West about two miles west of La. 99 in Jeff Davis Parish.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Ayers was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado towing a camper westbound in the left lane of I-10.
Before the crash, a 2020 Peterbilt had moved from the right lane into the left lane due to an emergency vehicle on the shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet failed to slow and struck the rear of the Peterbilt, Troop D says.
