It happened again. No, seriously. It happened again.
Just when it seemed impossible for the Penguins to blow another large, third-period lead, they basically did the same thing on Sunday, turning a three-goal advantage entering the final session into a 5-4 overtime loss to the Utah Mammoth at PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins have talked about holding leads being an issue. They’ve described identifying what has gone wrong and working to fix it. They’ve professed a need to be better. It simply hasn’t happened.
It’s confounding and frustrating and threatening to derail their season.
Sunday’s loss dropped the Penguins to 14-8-9. They’ve now lost six times in 15 games when leading after two periods.
