EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Kentucky Transportation officials are investigating the shifting of the ground in the north bound lanes of Interstate 69 near Morton’s Gap.

The slow lane has been closed since last Friday.

Officials say crews first noticed the issue after several rounds of heavy rain.

Crews fixed several problem areas but those still continue to get worse.

Officials say drilling is still happened in the area to test the ground at deep levels in the hope of finding a cause.

They say historical records show underground coal mining happened in the area, but it was so long ago there are not enough detailed records.
