Fry’s Marketplace was evacuated this morning after a fire alarm triggered a large emergency response, according to city officials.
The alarm was reported at 10:53 a.m. at Main Strip supermarket, located at 20700 N. John Wayne Parkway.
Dispatch logs showed more than a dozen units were either dispatched or en route, including multiple battalion chiefs, rescue engines and support vehicles. Maricopa’s public safety spokesperson, Monica Williams, said crews were still responding at 11 a.m. and explained the large number of responding fire vehicles.
“This will be a larger callout from the get-go because it is a commercial building,” Williams said. “If the initial units can handle what is found when they arrive, units will be cancelled en route.”
