BOSTON (WWLP) - A Lawrence man allegedly tied to the Trinitarios gang was charged with machine gun possession in federal court last week.

Charging documents stated that on May 6, law enforcement broadcast an alert to arrest 20-year-old Derek Mercado of Lawrence following a domestic violence incident report. The victim involved in the incident stated that Mercado was allegedly in possession of a firearm in a green duffel bag. Mercado also had two arrest warrants on unrelated charges at the time.

Investigators observed him leaving a home, reportedly carrying a green duffel bag as described by the victim. Police arrested Mercado and seized the bag, which inside they found an Israel Military Industries UZI model submachinegun containing an extended magazine loaded with 24 rounds of ammunitio
