Ruthven, Iowa (KTIV) - If you see a fire truck parked outside the Ruthven Fire Department, it’s not an emergency, it’s simply because they’ve run out of room inside the building.

“Our station is just getting small. We’ve needed a new one for a long time now,” explained Assistant Fire Chief Jake Treybal. “There is no training room. We have to move trucks out for any kind of meeting or training we do. It’s just a hassle.”

The department has been making do with limited space ever since their previous station was lost to a fire in 1977. But today, the facility can no longer keep up with the demands of modern fire and rescue operations.

“There is barely any room for guys responding to calls to come in and safely put gear on,” said Treybal.
