Alaska ranked second in WalletHub’s 2025 report on the Hardest-Working States in America, based on metrics such as average workweek hours, multiple jobholders, and vacation time usage.

According to the report, Alaskan workers average 41.6 hours per week—the highest in the country and the only state where the average exceeds 40 hours.

Alaska also ranks third in the share of workers holding multiple jobs and 12th for the percentage of employees who leave paid vacation time unused (27.5%).

Additionally, the state has the 10th-lowest share of households with no working adults.

The national study compares all 50 states across 10 indicators that measure both direct work factors—like employment rates and hours worked—and indirect ones such as volunteerism and vacation habits.
