ST. PAUL, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Two special primaries are underway in the Twin Cities area Tuesday for a couple open Minnesota State Senate seats.

These races could have an impact on the state’s political landscape.

Mitchell resigned this summer after being convicted of felony burglary related to a break-in at her stepmother’s house in Detroit Lakes.

Senate District 47 covers Woodbury in Washington County and the southern part of Maplewood in Ramsey County.
