The second annual Lewis Barbecue Hatch Chile Roast will take place at the Greenville location Sept. 7.
The roast will run from 1 to 4 p.m. and feature 4,000 pounds of chiles, food from local chefs and restaurants, a kiddie corral, a chile eating contest and live music.
The event is inspired by restaurant founder and pit master John Lewis’ childhood in the southwest. Each year, Hatch Valley, New Mexico holds a chile harvest. The pepper’s season runs from August to October.
“Late summer has always meant green chile season to me and I’m excited to share the taste and smell of roasted chiles, one of my most favorite ingredients from back home, with the Greenville community,” Lewis said in a news release.
Admission to the roast is free with donations encouraged in support of local nonprofit
