Students in the Scottville area will be able to receive a free backpacks filled with back to school supplies and other fun items from noon until gone this Saturday, Aug. 30, at the parking lot of the West Shore Bank in Scottville (107 W. State Street).

Local resident Michael Shaw and his family look forward to this outreach every year, and were able to see many smiling kids receive backpacks in Baldwin outside the Pathfinder Library last Saturday. Living Word Church also came out to greet families.

There will be 150 backpacks available at Scottville.

The whole thing cost about $1,300, with a few generous donations from church members, and the Shaws picking up the rest. Even Pathfinder Library gave a $500 check, which will be used to help toward next year.
