WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — Emergency crews are currently working to clear the scene of a serious crash that has closed multiple lanes during the Thursday morning commute in eastern Wake County.

An alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation around 6:55 a.m. stated that a crash occurred on I-87 South near mile marker 11 just before the Wendell Falls Parkway bridge.

Officials in the alert stated that at least two lanes would be closed throughout the morning due to the severity of the crash. The closure was then reduced to just one lane 30 minutes later, once the disabled vehicles were moved. Serious congestion did occur as a result of the crash during the morning commute.
