BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- For the first time in history, voters in Homewood, Mountain Brook and Columbiana have elected female mayors.

On Tuesday, Jennifer Andress was elected mayor of Homewood, Graham Smith was elected mayor of Mountain Brook and Lisa Strickland Davis was elected mayor of Columbiana. All three will take office on November 3.

Andress said she is eager to take on the new role and hopes her leadership will inspire others.

“It’s been really great to move up into the mayor position. I’m really excited about it and looking forward to hopefully inspiring a whole generation of young women out there,” she said.

Smith said being the city’s first female mayor isn’t her main focus, serving residents is.
