Authorities are investigating a fire that ripped through an Independence Township home early Thursday.

First responders were called at about 5 a.m. to the residence in the block of Forest Valley Drive near Royal Woods Drive for a report of a fire, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, they said in a statement.

Crews extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

Deputies said they spoke to the homeowner, and he told them that the house was unoccupied at the time.

They said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
