NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Halliwell Multigenerational Building Committee is moving closer to finalizing design documents for the town’s new community center, but updated cost estimates presented at an Aug. 23 meeting confirm that the overall cost has increased.

Initial estimates given to the committee at the meeting by architects from Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype (BH+A) put the construction cost at $6.56 million, with a total project cost of $7.48 million.

That broader number includes not just the building and site work but also architectural and engineering fees, permit and inspection costs, furniture, contingency, and other owner-side expenses.
