BEMIDJI – In a game that saw a total of thirteen touchdowns, it all came down to a fourth-and-3 near the 50-yard line.

The defending state Class 5A champions, Elk River, led 50-42 over the Bemidji High School football team. The Lumberjacks needed to go downfield in less than two minutes to stay in the game.

On the short fourth down, junior quarterback Owen Vandermeer misthrew a toss to the feet of senior Rhys Sneide. Elks were all over him, turning the series over on downs and sealing a wild back-and-forth game at Chet Anderson Stadium on Thursday night.

“I am extremely proud of the effort – the way we battled adversity together – and I'm proud of how we rallied together as the game went on,” head coach Bryan Stoffel said. “I still think that we should never settle for a loss.
