WAUSEON, Ohio — The Fulton County Fair , the second-largest in Ohio, officially opened its gates Friday for a week of food, rides and live entertainment.
But for some kids, the fair means more than just fun, it’s competition time.
Nine-year-old Dallas Schrock is preparing for her first showmanship contest at the fair, a competition that focuses on how exhibitors present their animals to judges.
“You always have to look at the judge and you cannot be between the judge and the pig. The pig always has to be between the judge and you,” Schrock said.
That kind of preparation takes time.
“I walked them about 20 minutes every day, brushed them, and hosed them off before and after,” Schrock said.
