Ireached a milestone birthday a couple of days ago.
It’s not very newsworthy — we generally don’t do birthday celebrations in the Aiken Standard unless a person is turning 100 or more — but getting to 60 was a big deal for me.
Because I almost didn’t make it.
Four months before my birthday, I had a heart attack while having lunch in City Billiards . Thanks to great help from Tasha Davis, Terra Jones, Aiken Public Safety Officer Barrett Goff and City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh, I was resuscitated and brought back to life.
From there I received great care from Aiken Regional Medical Centers and the team at Carolina Heart and Vascular Center.
My wife, Kathy, has been a saint through all of this. She’s made sure I eat properly, take my medicines and kept up with my various medical appoin
