WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Wareham Department of Natural Resources said that a yacht lost propulsion while traveling through the Cape Cod Canal on Saturday.

The incident occurred near the the Massachusetts Maritime Academy around 1 p.m.

The department said the yacht turned sideways and backwards and nearly struck the Railroad Bridge and drifted near the banks of the canal.

The Army Corp of Engineers Patrol and Wareham Natural Resources Officers boarded and towed the vessel to safety.
