A Leicestershire grandad has gone the extra distance to keep the memory of a little boy who died from a brain tumour alive. Patrick Howlett felt compelled to do all he could for Taylan Kurtal who was his granddaughter's best friend.

Taylan, from Broughton Astley, was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma brain tumour at the age of five in May 2023. The youngster had been suffering with his vision and balance prior to being given the shock news. After surgery, he suffered posterior fossa syndrome, a condition which describes a collection of neurological symptoms which include being unable to sit up, walk, eat, and talk.
