HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Harlan County Coroner’s Office confirmed that a 1-year-old child has died following an apparent drowning.

Officials said the child was pronounced dead Saturday evening in the Emergency Department at Harlan ARH.

Due to the sensitivity of the case and the involvement of a child, the coroner’s office said no additional details will be released at this time.

Kentucky State Police is investigating.

In a Facebook post, the coroner’s office expressed gratitude to first responders, Lifeguard Ambulance crews, and the Harlan ARH Emergency Department staff who worked to save the child.

“Tragic events like this are hard on the most seasoned professional,” the office said, asking the community to keep everyone involved in their prayers.
