GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - This time of year, when children go back to school, is when Brown County sees an uptick in reports of suspected child abuse or neglect.

Teachers are mandated reporters in all 50 states -- professionals who are legally required to report when they suspect neglect or abuse.

For some children, getting back into the classroom may be the first time they’re around another adult besides their parents since last school year.

Right now, Brown County has 330 children living outside of their parental homes. A large portion of them are placed with relatives, while 115 children are in the care of foster parents.
