FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - To keep kids and teens safe online, a father is talking about his son, who took his own life following online sextortion .

You can hear from that dad at an event later this month on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fond du Lac High School.

John DeMay is a Michigan father who lost his 17-year-old son, Jordan.

DeMay’s mission is to raise awareness, spark change, and protect families from this devastating crime.

Fond du Lac police will also talk about prevention strategies and how you as a parent can help keep your kids safe online.

The event is not recommended for kids under the age of 10.

The next day, on Sept. 25, Sheboygan Lutheran Theater is hosting an online safety event at 6 p.m. with Brittney Bird, who will share her family’s story
