The four-part drama, I Fought The Law, airing on ITV, chronicles the relentless campaign of Ann Ming (portrayed by Sheridan Smith) to change the double jeopardy law.
Her struggle began following the brutal murder of her 22 year old daughter, Julie Hogg, by Billy Dunlop, who is now serving a life sentence.
This was only possible because Ann, who discovered her daughter's body hidden under the bath at her home, fought to amend the law that prevented criminals from being tried twice for the same crime. In 1989, Dunlop strangled Julie, a mother-of-one, to death after an argument that sent him into a fit of rage, he claimed.
Here's everything you need to know about how Billy Dunlop knew Julie Hogg and the events leading up to her death.
