SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to a house fire early Tuesday in the 100 block of Dana Drive.

The fire happened shortly after 4 a.m. When crews arrived minutes later, heavy flames were coming from the roof and rear of a two-story home, officials said.

Firefighters initially went inside to fight the flames, but as the fire spread into the attic, they had to pull back for safety. Crews then used an aerial ladder to knock down the heavy fire before returning to finish putting it out.

The fire was placed under control at 5:28 a.m. The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.

No one was injured, but one person and a dog were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting.

Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
