An alleged impaired driver thought he found a good hiding place from police: in the back seat of his vehicle.
The saga unfolded in Guelph around 7:20 p.m. Sunday, when police were called to the scene of a hit-and-run crash between two vehicles at Speedvale Avenue East and Metcalfe Street , with one driver leaving the scene.
Witnesses followed the vehicle, police said, and boxed it in nearby. Officers were told by witnesses the driver got out of the vehicle, poured out some alcohol and climbed into the back seat. That’s where officers found him.
Officers said several open alcohol containers were located inside the vehicle.
The driver, a 68-year-old Guelph man, was taken to the police station, where he refused a breath sample.
