DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — The district attorney in Douglas County provided an update Tuesday afternoon on the case of a 21-year-old man who was found shot dead in a car in January, with the family alleging someone confessed to the shooting.
Malachi Mitchell was discovered in the car during a traffic stop. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle — believed to be the person who shot Mitchell— was taken in for questioning and later released.
On Tuesday, District Attorney Dalia Racine said the driver acted in self-defense and will not face any charges.
Mitchell's mother, Kenya Mitchell, has previously spoken out on several occasions as the circumstances of Mitchell's death have remained murky.
“Can you tell me where my son was shot? Can you tell me how many times? Can you tell me why?”
