In a matter of four days last week, Iowa football lost two of its top skill-position players to injuries that will keep them out of the Cy-Hawk rivalry game.

Losing Vander Zee, its starting “X” receiver last season, after Iowa had completed its final game-week practice, did put a dent into Iowa’s passing game in a 34-7 season-opening win against Albany. Losing Moulton, the expected successor of Kaleb Johnson and one of the preseason betting favorites to lead the Big Ten Conference in rushing, after his third carry against Albany, meant others suddenly had to step up.

Those injuries stung, but Iowa has settled in those areas and feels well-stocked for this Sept. 6 game at Iowa State (11 a.m., F
