CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A dog attack left a woman with severe injuries in Chesterfield County , officials said on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, on Hunts Mill Road, about 9 miles south of the town of Chesterfield, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office. A release about the incident was sent out on Tuesday.

A 78-year-old woman suffered severe lacerations to her body, head, and neck after she was attacked by two dogs. She was airlifted to a trauma center in Charlotte for further treatment.

Kathy Shami, the owner of the dogs, secured the animals before police arrived. Authorities took custody of the dogs when they arrived. Shami was charged with two counts of animal at large and two counts of rabies violation. Shami's next court date in
