SHEVLIN — The Clearwater County Historical Society will observe National Grandparents Day with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the history center, 264 First St.
National Grandparents Day started in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation making the Sunday after Labor Day "National Grandparents Day."
September was chosen for the holiday to signify the "autumn years." Its purpose is to honor grandparents, give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer, a release said.
The event will feature an informal classic car show and horse and wagon rides around Shevlin, exploring where historic buildings were located 100 years ago. Ride
