PORTLAND, Maine — Age-Friendly Portland and the city’s Office of Elder Affairs will host a free community summit on Sept. 18, focusing on helping older residents prepare for emergencies.

Age-Friendly Portland is a city-led group that works to make the community safer and more welcoming for older residents, helping them live independently with support and dignity.

The event, scheduled for the Jewish Community Alliance on Congress Street, will feature presentations from the American Red Cross, the Portland Fire Department, and the National Weather Service. Topics will include disaster planning, fire safety, and other strategies tailored to the needs of older adults. Lunch and free parking will be provided, but registration is required.
