EAST AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — It's the start of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and a big event is on the horizon to help pediatric cancer fighters across Western New York.

Shine Gold will give back to four causes helping young warriors, and that includes the non-profit, 'Keeley Kares for Kids.'

"We randomly found a lump on the side of her neck," Laura Noworyta said.

In 2021, when Keeley Noworyta was eight years old, she got the diagnosis no family wants to hear: stage four Hodgkin's lymphoma.

"I couldn't go to school and see my friends every day, so I felt sad and it was hard to go to Roswell in the mornings because I'm not a morning person," Keeley said. "And that's really hard."

Keeley missed half of the third grade.

"That was... that was kind of a nightmare," Laura said.
