HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - City and state leaders joined students, families, and educators Tuesday to celebrate the opening of Dr. William R. Peck Middle School, the first new school built in Holyoke since 1989.

The $85.5 million project, approved in 2023, was developed in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). The city will contribute $27.1 million, while the MSBA is reimbursing approximately $58.4 million. Officials said the project is running nearly 10% under budget.

Mayor Joshua Garcia, Interim Superintendent Anthony Soto, and members of the City Council, School Committee, and School Building Committee cut the ribbon alongside state lawmakers, MSBA representatives, and community members.
