AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Amherst Town Board held a public hearing Tuesday night on the topic of handing over the Westwood Country Club property to Erie County - for one dollar.
The decision to sell the property to Erie County has been in the works for months, but that doesn't mean neighbors thoughts on the topic have changed in that time. Dozens showed up even hours before Tuesday night's meeting, marching out front to protest the sale.
"We're going to give it to somebody for a dollar, I don't care who you give it to you for the dollar, it's still wrong," said Amherst resident William Pitz.
The town announced in April that the would be working with Erie County, developing the 171-acre site between Sheridan Drive and Maple Road into a public park and nine hole golf course, the first c
