BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Southern football is preparing for its first home game of the season against Alabama State. Even though the Hornets are a part of the SWAC, the game won’t count toward either team’s conference record.

The Jags enter the game 1-1, coming off a 34-29 win over Mississippi Valley State on the road. Southern head coach Terrence Graves admitted they didn’t play their best ball, but he said that all that matters is that they got the win.

Alabama State is coming off a huge moral victory against the University of Alabama at Birmingham last week. The Hornets ended up losing 52-42, but they held their own against an AAC opponent.
