FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Michigan-based Akebono Brake Corp. is to lay off 53 employees.

The layoffs will affect 48 employees at the Akebono Engineering Center located at 34385 W. Twelve Mile Road in Farmington Hills, as well as five additional employees at the Akebono Brake Elizabethtown plant in Kentucky, according to a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

“This workforce reduction/layoffs are the result of a decline in Akebono’s U.S. Business and are expected to be permanent,” reads the letter.

Layoffs will begin on Oct. 1 and end Dec. 1. The impacted positions include engineers, lab techs, analysts, designers and program managers.
