Perhaps a little luck was involved on Friday night, when Colorado’s Alejandro Mata had an extra point tipped by a Georgia Tech defender, yet not enough to prevent it from slipping through the uprights.
Aside from that, however, Mata could not have asked for a better start to his senior year. Mata hit both of his field goal attempts, from 29 and 42 yards, as well as both of his extra points.
Mata hopes to continue the success when the Buffs host Delaware on Saturday at Folsom Field (1:30 p.m., Fox).
“To be honest, I think this is the most prepared season (I’ve had),” he said.
Mata said in roughly 90 charted kicks during preseason camp, he made 86% of them. He added that the operation with snapper Kameron Hawkins and holder Damon Greaves has felt “smooth.”
