AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) - A new law is cutting red tape for food trucks across Texas, a change owners say could save them hundreds of dollars each year while making it easier to expand their businesses.
House Bill 2844, often called the “Food Truck Freedom Bill,” was authored by Rep. Brooks Landgraf (R-Odessa) and signed into law this summer. The measure establishes a single, statewide mobile food vendor license, replacing the patchwork of city and county permits that operators previously had to secure.
The Texas Department of State Health Services will oversee the new system, which begins phasing in this fall and takes full effect July 1, 2026.
