PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix area is bracing for blowing dust. The National Weather Service issued a dust storm warning for the Valley that lasts until 9 p.m.
A severe storm just east of Maricopa kicked up the dust around 8:15 p.m. It’s moving north and is expected to hit South Mountain. Parts of Tempe and Mesa were getting some rain around 8:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Lorena is moving up the west coast of the Baja Peninsula, fueling a monsoon surge into Arizona.
It has winds of 80 miles an hour, but as it moves north into colder water and begins to move inland on the peninsula, it’s expected to start to weaken. In fact, no hurricane warnings are posted along the coast in Mexico, though Tropical Storm Warnings are up.
