The Hawaii women’s volleyball team has been in this position before under Robyn Ah Mow.

For the third time in her eight seasons as head coach, UH went winless in a season-opening tournament, dropping nine consecutive sets to go 0-3 in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic last weekend.

It happened in her first year in 2017 when UH lost matches to Marquette, San Diego and UCLA to go 0-3. Hawaii rebounded to go 20-8 and 14-2 in conference to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Three years ago, UH went to Texas and dropped matches to Texas A&M, Pittsburgh and San Diego to start the season. Hawaii was swept in its final two matches in that tournament, but it went on to go 22-7 and 19-1 in conference play.
