LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A death investigation is under after a 5-year-old boy in Louisville died from a fall earlier this week.

The Louisville Metro Police Department was called just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday to a home on the 2900 block of Conestoga Avenue to look into a report that a child had sustained traumatic injuries from a fall.

Officials told FOX affiliate WDRB that the 5-year-old was taken to Norton Children's Hospital, where he died on Wednesday.

LMPD said its homicide unit has taken over the investigation due to the severity of the child's injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the child's fall are unknown at this time. WDRB is reporting that it's unclear if anyone will face criminal charges in connection with the death.
