VAN BUREN, Maine — No charges will be filed in the crash that killed an 8-year-old girl struck by an ambulance last week in Van Buren, state officials said.

Emma Cormier of Van Buren died Aug. 27 after she was hit while attempting to cross Main Street near Kennedy Terrace , according to the Maine Department of Public Safety. The crash happened around 4 p.m.

Ambulance personnel tried to save her at the scene, but she did not survive.

The ambulance was not responding to an emergency call at the time, and speed was not believed to be a factor, officials said.

On Thursday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine the district attorney’s office reviewed the circumstances and determined there was no negligence and no charges would be filed.
