DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. ( WWSB ) — A cat is recovering, and a woman is facing a felony charge after deputies say she let her pet suffer with a severe leg injury.

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation began in March when Fur-Ever Friends Animal Hospital reported a call from a woman asking how to amputate a cat’s leg at home.

Deputies went to the DeSoto County home of Crystal Conley, where they found her cat, Daisy, emaciated and with a leg “reduced to exposed bone,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Daisy was removed from the home and taken to Fur-Ever Friends for treatment. Veterinarians said the cat was anemic, hypovolemic, and battling a severe infection, and that she likely would have died from sepsis without treatment.
